Default 411 On Affiliate Marketing: What Makes It Click? - 02-27-2008

I just found this excellent article on Affiliate Marketing & found it an excellent read.

Affiliate marketing is a method of promoting web-connected businesses and PR sites, for both web merchants and advertisers, in which affiliates are utilized to market the merchant’s services, and are rewarded for every visitor, subscriber and customer who clicks and acquires the services or buys products thru his or her forts.

Affiliate marketing is a unique program, wherein utilizing one site to drive traffic to another is the main thrust of online marketing. While search engines, RSS and e-mails capture the attention of online marketers and sellers, affiliate marketing, much like the early beginnings of online retailing, carries a rather lower profile. However, affiliates still and would continue to play a largely important role in an e-retailers' marketing programs and methods.

Successful affiliate programs do need lot of maintaining and work up. The number of affiliate programs just a few years back was much smaller than it is today. Having an affiliate program that is successful is not done as easy before.

The days when programs could generate considerable revenue for the main merchant even if they were poorly devised or improperly managed are now over. The days of uncontrolled programs were basically one of the reasons why some of the negative examples of affiliates were able to do what they did, like spamming, trademark infringement, false advertising, and other scams.

The increase in the current number of internet businesses, concurrent with the increased traffic of web visitors and people that trust the current technology enough to do shopping and business online has quite caused a stir, and enables the further maturing of affiliate marketing.

The opportunities created to generate a quite considerable amount of profit in combination with a more crowded marketplace filled with equal-sized competitors has made it harder for merchants to get noticed; however at the same time the rewards if you get noticed are definitely much larger and more promising.

Affiliate marketing, in a nutshell, simplifies the retail process. You, the affiliate, promotes the product via e-mail list or in a personalized website. You then provide the customers with information about the products, as well as a link to a site where they can purchase the product, or acquire the services offered, if they like. If ever the customer makes a purchase, you then get paid automatically.

The secrets to affiliate marketing success are:

First, you need to find the right product to promote, and then you should be able to find the right tools to use to promote your product efficiently. There are quite a number of respected affiliate marketing products in the market to choose where to promote, that have good value, allow the affiliate to make decent sales, contain respectable content and guarantees a healthy profit margin, usually up to 75% for the affiliates.

Hundreds of them are readily available; you only need to find one that suits your interests and needs. After that, you only need to find a way to promote the product. A good website does the job well, along with an e-mail campaign. You can also make good use of newsletters or even article marketing to promote your product or service.
