How important is PR for rankings?

So far, I've never bothered about building links for the sake of improving PageRank. But lately I'm seeing many people talking about PR. You think it's worth it to work with an aim of improving PR? What value does it carry for rankings?

Quality traffic is more important than PR

PR do play a part in getting better rankings with Search Engines which eventually leads to quality traffic over a period of time. PR is just as important as blogs, forums, etc from a SEO point of view.

If you are selling advertising on your site, PR is important because most webmasters look for sites with good PR to advertise on. However, it doesn't contribute much to your traffic. I have seen a site which is a PR 3 and is getting 1million visitors a day.
