Your question is a little vague but I am a mother so I wanted to give you a little input...

When looking at websites for children things I want to see are, no adds- no way for the child on the site to click out of the site and go on to another (not so friendly site)...

Bright, cheery, easy to navigate. Bold lettering, educational.

Definitely agree. You don't want the child infecting your computer with some stupid smileys ad, and believe it or not, kids are pretty smart on the computer. Once they get the hang of that mouse, they're set. Make it fun, but also make it to where they're actually learning.

My kids like bright colors, so I design with that in mind. Primary colors blue red and yellow seem best

Primary colors will be great for this kind of website. Simple animations will be fun too.

For a kid's site, I would suggest using graphics and a lot of colors to make it seem friendly and for kids to enjoy visiting the site.
