Default Blogging for SEO - 07-21-2008

I am considering starting a blog because I have much to say about advertising and marketing. I also want to get some seo benefits from it for my domain. Should I create it as a subdirectory in my main domain?

What if I want it to have its own identity so that visitors to my main site don't have to know about it?

Thanks

Your idea of creating a subdirectory can work out,but you need to work hard for this.Firstly try to popularize your home page andlink it to the suddirectory in the form of a cyclic link.so that both can gain value at a time.

Starting a blog to spread the word about your company and services is not something new. It is helpful, when done properly. Instead of using a new domain, it would be better to setup a blog on new directory and then link it with the homepage.

As for seo benefits, personally what I have observed is that sub-directories work better than sub-domains if you don't want to build a particular from scratch. SEs consider subdomains as new domains so you'd have to start all over.
