WordPattern - WordPattern represents a revolution in weblog technology, a paradigm shift for the emerging army of citizen journalists, diarists and technologists known as bloggers. Still in its early stages, this new application brings together for the first time the best of both worlds: Textpattern’s legendary documentation, the style and sophistication of WordPress, and the community spirity that helped make the two the successes they are today.
WordPress - WordPress is a state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability. What a mouthful. WordPress is both free and priceless at the same time. More simply, WordPress is what you use when you want to work with your blogging software, not fight it. Wheatblog - Wheatblog is blogware: it's a web-based content management system for maintaining online blogs, journals, news pages, and about anything else you can think of writing down. It allows reader interaction with a comment system, and generates valid RSS 2.0 feeds. It is powered by PHP and is compatible with the MySQL and SQLite database systems. Wheatblog was born out of a desire to provide an alternative to such services, and provide a platform for serious-minded and web-savvy users to expand control over their content. All of wB's markup is valid XHTML 1.0; all style information is housed in a completely independent Cascading Style Sheet. This powerful web design paradigm provides maximum flexibility, and the look, feel and content of your blog is limited only by your creativity. TruBlog - TruBlog is a weblogging engine. It aims not to be a typical CMS - those are usually huge and hard to understand. TruBlog's been carefully designed by bloggers for bloggers - all to bring them the most user-friendly blogging experience. The purpose of TruBlog project is to create a system, that will be good enough both for you and your mother. We want to implement every possible weblog-specific functionality in an easy-to-use "one-click" interface to ensure that anyone's able to have his own weblog, no matter how skilled he is. We used various techniques to ensure that you won't have to dig in the code when you want links to be green and menu on the right side of the screen. Default templates and themes have been optimised to work in almost any browser on earth. You don't need to care, TruBlog will simply work!. And last but not least, TruBlog? It's completely free! The license we chose, the GPL, even allows you to freely modify this system and to distribute these modifications. Textpattern - Built into Textpattern is Textile, a simple syntax for nudging plain text into structurally sound and stylistically rich web content. Ordinarily fussy text amendments such as headers, hyperlinks, image tags and tables are created with one or two simple markers. Compared to navigating the tag soup of markup, writing and revising with Textile is much more intuitive, being closer to working with ordinary text. Once you’re ready to publish, copy marked up with Textile is automatically converted to valid XHTML, and because Textpattern stores both versions of each article, revising and updating is a snap. When composing or readying articles for publication in Textpattern, you can switch between three views of the article plain text, XHTML (the code with which a web browser renders the article), and a rendered preview. Sites published with Textpattern can employ unlimited registered contributors, each of whom may be assigned privileges by the publisher of the site. Five levels of privileges (publisher, managing editor, copy editor, writer and designer) are provided, and each reflects different access to article creation, approval, editing and deletion, and to image uploads, page design and CSS, and of course adding more contributors. Installing and managing plugins that extend Textpattern's abilities is straightforward. Once installed, plugins can be turned on and off from within the Textpattern interface, where detailed help and access to parameters used by plugins is also available. Simplog - Simplog provides an easy way for users to add blogging capabilities to their existing websites. Simplog is written in PHP and compatible with multiple databases. Simplog also features an RSS/Atom aggregator/reader. Powerful, yet simple. Serendipity - Serendipity is a weblog/blog system, implemented with PHP. It is standards compliant, feature rich and open source (BSD License). Serendipity is constantly under active development, with a team of talented developers trying to make the best PHP powered blog on the net. Serendipity has so far also proven 100% PHP5 compatible. sBLOG - sBLOG is designed to be a small and efficient blog for individuals and supports creation and editing of static pages. Pixelpost - Pixelpost is a photoblog application powered by PHP and MySQL. It's developed and maintained by photobloggers who like to keep the meaning behind photoblogging in mind, the photography, and not about the 311 hacks you would have to get through to get your regular blog to work. Nucleus - With Nucleus, you can set up one or more weblogs. If you want to, you can even show the contents of multiple weblogs on the same page. Each blog has its own team of authors. Some authors will only have posting rights, others will be allowed to change settings for the blog as well. Within a weblog, you can set up one or more categories. Each item you add in your weblog will be put in one of these categories. Nucleus provides a built-in Commenting System, so there's no need for external commenting tools. A karma-voting system is also provided. The way your Nucleus site looks is fully tweak able through skins and templates, and multiple CSS files. Next to that, the language used by the Nucleus admin area can easily be changed through language-files. Additional features can be programmed in so called plugins and installed on Nucleus. This allows you to have the features you want, without having the Nucleus core to become bloated. The Nucleus plugin interface offers plugin authors lots of flexibility. Archives for your weblogs are automatically managed by Nucleus, and a search function is provided to look up old items. Nucleus also features highlighting search terms, both in articles, and in comments! Syndication feeds are provided (as skins). Nucleus provides RSS and Atom feeds. Extra feed types (your favorite RSS flavor) can be added easily. Want to include an image in an item? Open the media popup, choose a file to upload and off you go! No need to open an FTP program and upload the file manually. Some nasty people screwing up your comments? Ban their IP address or IP range or nickname from further comments/votes. With a simple click you can create a backup version of the database contents. Loudblog - Loudblog is a sleek and easy-to-use Content Management System (CMS) for publishing media content on the web. It automatically generates a skinnable website and an RSS-Feed for Podcasting. Just upload your audio/video files, add some notes and links, and you’re done! Loudblog is not a fully featured weblog system like Textpattern or Movable Type, although it does offer the basic weblog functionality. Use Loudblog if you’re publishing media data on a regular base and do not need sophisticated features other systems may provide much better. Loudblog makes Mediablogging and Podcasting easy. There are a variety of ways to put your media content into the system. You can upload it via your browser, use a free FTP client like filezilla or – get the files from the web! Loudblog automatically creates a valid Podcasting-feed. Visitors can listen/watch your mediablog posts using a podcast client or ‘podcatcher’ e.g. iPodder. To do this they simply click on the ‘podcast- feed’ hyperlink and copy and paste the page url into their chosen podcatcher. The podcatcher then opens itunes, or another media player selected as the default player, and automatically plays the programme! As the ‘podcatcher’ regularly checks for new content visitors are effectively subscribed to your podcast channel!. LifeType - The goal of the LifeType project is to create a stable multi-user and multi-blogging platform, to strengthen the concept of communities around blogs. LifeType supports multiple blogs and users, media management, generation of standard content, clean URLs and support for subdomains. LifeType is released under the GPL license, and requires PHP and MySQL to work. Writing articles is comfortable with the included state of the art WYSIWYG editor. Adding pictures and sound files (for Podcasting) is just a matter of browse and click. The Dashboard provides you with all the information you need every time you log in. Recent articles, comments and trackback as well as brief statistics get you updated about your blog immediately. DotClear - DotClear was design only for weblogs management, and do it well. It is completely free! DotClear is a free software distributed under the GNU General Public License. boastMachine - boastMachine is an open source, state of the art publishing platform written from scratch, that makes your web publishing experience so fun and easy as never before! From the fully automated installation to advanced content management features to spam fighting, boastMachine provides you with all that you would ever need! blur6ex - blur6ex is a simple weblog and content system built with PHP. It offers basic features found in more established systems and is extensible enough for any number of new features to be added. Ideal, at the moment, for those who don't want overkill in their setup. By all accounts blur6ex is fairly simple. All of the code is in PHP and you could probably make it do anything you wanted by editing no more than 3 files. As the march to the 1.0 release continues, documentation is added and updated. If you don't want to mess with the core code, it's easy to create pluggable shards to add sidebar menus or other new features. A SVN repository is provided for read-only access (for now) to the latest code. blur6ex grafts control the layout of your site. Each graft consists of a PHP file(s) and CSS file. For those fluent in CSS, the sky's the limit. For the rest of us, a few base grafts exist that you can use directly or modify to suit your tastes, most ported over from Wordpress or Movable Type. Your blog can look like your friends', or you can create your own, completely original look. From the beginning one of the main focuses of the project was speed. The project grew out of curiosity, but also as a solution to what was seen as uber feature full and configurable blogging systems. While we do try to avoid all-out premature optimization, we do focus on the speed impacts of various system changes through benchmarks. If a new feature slows things down too much it gets cut or the algorithm is reworked until the speed impact is acceptable. It is quite likely that the latest release is the fastest release yet! BLOG:CMS - BLOG:CMS is the most complete, feature-packed, personal publishing system on the market, developed by Radek Hulán. It includes state-of-the-art weblog, forum, wiki engine, news aggregator (atom / rss), and photo gallery. BLOG:CMS is probably the only system that is not only w3c valid, but also ships with application/xhtml+xml MIME type by default, for top performance on modern browsers like Mozilla, Firefox, Safari and Opera. But BLOG:CMS will also automatically supply older standard, text/html, to browsers which cannot handle this, like obsolete Microsoft Internet Explorer. With BLOG:CMS, you can set up one or more weblogs. If you want to, you can even show the contents of multiple weblogs on the same page. With BLOG:CMS, you can host discussions to your articles in either your weblog, or in a forum. This gives you much more possibilities and freedom for larger discussions. BLOG:CMS members are automatically registered in your forum as well, and within your weblog you can see date and time of last forum post for each article. Today, when digital cameras are more common than traditional ones, personal presentation without a Photo Gallery almost could not exists. BLOG:CMS ships with Singapore Photo Gallery, using GD2 and/or ImageMagic to create thumbnails. Wiki engine is a great tool for any documentation needs, for collaboration on projects. Anybody can add information to Wiki resource. Some of the worlds biggest knowledge resources are based on Wiki engines. BLOG:CMS comes with Dokuwiki engine, one of the best, and standards compliant. bBlog - bBlog was started as a project by Eaden McKee to see how far the Smarty templating system could go toward supporting a full fledged blogging and content management framework. From the beginning, the goal was to keep the system centered on the template concept, and make new features fit into the modular plugin framework that Smarty lays out. bBlog builds on the tradition and concepts of b2, Wordpress and other PHP blog software, but is not based on the same code. It is available under the GPL, which means it's free to use, and you are free to modify and redistribute it. bBlog is a powerful, elegant personal publishing system written in PHP and released as free, Open Source software under the GPL. It is a flexible but simple way to blog that works for blogging beginners, and can grow into a more advanced user's needs. bBlog is used by thousands of bloggers world wide and has not only the features you would expect from a modern blogging system, but also advanced capabilities including advanced comment spam prevention and threaded comments. Perhaps bBlog's most distinctive feature is that it is built around a templating system called Smarty, which makes customizing your blog as easy as editing any web page, no programming skills required. b2evolution - b2evolution is probably the most comprehensive blog engine you can find! It includes almost any feature you could expect from a blog tool, and more. Plus, it's free, it's open-source (GPL), it runs virtually anywhere (PHP/mySQL) and it's available in many languages!
